Why SureStep?

Developed by a Caring Father

"As an orthotist and a father of a child with low muscle tone, I was determined to provide the best orthotic treatment regimen for my son Kevin. When Kevin was younger, I fabricated a variety of orthotics for his severely pronated feet. Some restricted certain activities like jumping; some made his legs tired and sore; some gave him blisters and callused areas; some just simply slowed him down. Frustrated by the functional limitations created by traditional rigid bracing made of hard plastics, I pursued the creation of a lighter and more flexible device that would allow and even encourage normal development of a child’s gait without decreasing function."
~ Bernie Veldman, CO

Unique Concept of Compression

SureStep employs the unique concept of compression. The extremely thin and flexible plastic does not wedge the foot into position as traditional bracing systems do. Instead, the orthosis is tightened around the foot, the soft tissue is compressed, and midline positioning is the result. This unique orthosis remains flexible when worn, allowing the foot to continue to move and to "sense" movement and respond appropriately. Joint receptors will continue to function, which will encourage a more natural development of balance reactions and the development of proper muscle strategies and movement patterns, which will result in improved motor planning. Don't be fooled by other systems claiming to be "Dynamic"…SURESTEP REDEFINES DYNAMIC!!!

Allows for Proper Development of Child's Gait

A totally different look...Another defining aspect of the SureStep is its special trimlines. The SureStep trimlines are proximal to the first metatarsal head which encourages normal push-off, allows squatting, jumping, running and standing on toes. The lateral side is trimmed distal to the 5th metatarsal head, just behind the 5th toe. This helps to encourage the foot to form the rigid lever arm necessary for a normal, natural push-off. The trimlines of the SureStep allow for proper development of the child's gait through enhanced freedom of movement.

No Casting Required

Until now, custom orthoses have always required casting which is messy and often traumatic to smaller children. SureStep is not only conceptually unique, but also unique because it requires no casting. Nine simple measurements provide all the necessary information to create the model of the foot and ankle over which the SureStep is custom fabricated. This means that no matter where you are, SureStep is available to you.

No Adjustments, No Waiting

You can obtain SureSteps through an orthotist in your area. Once we have received the order from your orthotist, we will ship your new orthoses in 2 business days. No returning for adjustments and no more waiting. Patients could be wearing SureStep within a week! Compliance is up...

Wearing SureStep is Comfortable

While we cannot promise that every child will fall in love with their SureSteps, we do find that most parents report that the children not only "don't mind" the SureStep system, but actually ask to wear them. We attribute this to the fact that children feel more stable, balanced, coordinated and have more endurance when they wear their SureSteps. Because SureStep remains flexible and actually moves with the foot, the typical "issues" with redness and blistering are a thing of the past. Wearing the SureStep can be a pleasure.

A Welcome Change, Reduced Irritation

If you are tired of chasing red marks, pressure areas, calluses and blisters, then SureStep will be a welcome change. The frequency of skin irritations normally associated with custom orthoses reduces dramatically with SureStep. This is due in part to the softness and flexibility of the material used to create the SureStep system. The plastic is approximately the thickness and consistency of a plastic milk jug. This allows the orthosis to "flex" with the foot without applying undue pressure to the navicular, malleoli and metatarsal heads.
