A uniquely designed orthoses developed to allow children to access their potential from a variety of different levels.
This unique "orthosis within an orthosis" two stage device, allows for the SureStep SMO to be utilized independent of the AFO, allowing children to work through a variety of transitional skills without impeding normal muscle function.
When used together, the SureStep SMO locks securely into the AFO transforming this truly dynamic SMO into an AFO that provides triplanar stability without restricting normal usage of intrinsic musculature of the foot.
Therapists can utilize this as a tool for children as they transition through their upright gross motor skill development. The Indy 2Stage is ideal for children who require the proximal support of an AFO to achieve independent stance, but still benefit from an SMO for proper crawling and pull-to-stand activities to be done appropriately. Also, as these children progress to taking independent steps with the AFO, you can continue to work on improving motor plans and muscle strategies with the SMO to allow a smooth transition to less bracing.
In addition, children with disorders that cause increased fatigue throughout the day can begin their day in the SMO to work to maintain their functional muscle groups and as the day wears on they can add the AFO section to maintain a stable and functional gait pattern.
